The rules, in the order you meet them

  1. Signing in. You make an account with a passkey: your device keeps a private key behind your fingerprint, face or screen lock, and the server keeps only the public half. No password, no username. You get a recovery code once, and can add up to 10 passkeys.
  2. Units. A unit is one place you let, with a nickname and its own time zone. Every date is kept as a calendar day in that zone, and "today" is the day it is there, by the server's clock. Changing the zone changes today, never the dates already marked.
  3. Jobs and intervals. Each job is due every N stays (1 to 20), every N days (1 to 730) or every N months (1 to 36). You choose N; Turnchores ships no default interval for anything. Dated jobs have a first due date. A job can be host only, so it never shows to cleaners.
  4. Marking done. A mark on a day resets the schedule from that day, not from the old due date. Every N days: the next due date is the last done date plus N days. Every N months: the last done date plus N months, and when that month is shorter the last day of the month (31 January plus 1 month is 28 February, or 29 in a leap year). An earlier date than the last mark keeps the later one. An undone mark is simply left out and the date worked out again.
  5. Every N stays. A job set to every N stays is due when it has never been done, or when at least N minus 1 turnovers have been recorded on a day later than the day it was last done. Every 1 stay is due at every turnover.
  6. Status of a dated job, in this order: Overdue when its due date has passed. Before next guest when it is due on or before the next check-in date, or within the next 7 days when no check-in date is set or the date has passed. Soon when it is due within 30 days. Later otherwise.
  7. The cleaner's list. The jobs shown to cleaners that are due at this turnover, overdue or before the next guest, overdue first, then in your order. A job ticked during this clean stays on the list, shown done.
  8. Turnover finished. One turnover per unit per day, on the day at the place (a clean that ends after midnight counts on the new day). When it is recorded, every due every-stay job nobody ticked since the previous turnover is shown as Missed last turnover until it is done.
  9. Ticks from a cleaner. A tick carries the day it was tapped. It is taken when that day is today or yesterday at the place; older ticks are refused with "Too old to send. Ask the host to add it." With no signal the tick waits on the phone and is sent later. Each tick carries a key, so a double tap or a resend is one mark. A cleaner can undo their own tick for 10 minutes; after that the host can, and a host's undo during the clean is shown on the cleaner's page. Turning a link off stops it at once, and the cleaner's page says it was turned off.
  10. Limits. At present an account holds 3 units with up to 100 jobs and 5 cleaner links each, and 40 supplies a unit.
  11. Email. One email on Mondays at 08:00 your time lists each unit that has something overdue, before the next guest, missed or running low, sent only to an address you confirmed. Cleaners never get email. Nothing depends on it: the same counts are on each unit.
  12. Deleting. A deleted unit or account can be restored for 7 days, then it is deleted for good. Links stop at once.

Worked example

On 1 November a host adds "Descale the kettle", every 30 days, first due 1 November. On 3 November it is Overdue. The cleaner ticks it that day, so it is next due 3 December, 30 days from the tick.

"Clean the oven" is every 3 stays. It is ticked at the 2 November turnover. Turnovers on 5 and 9 November are recorded without it, and it is due at the next one. If that turnover is recorded and nobody ticked it, it shows as Missed last turnover until somebody does.

On 10 November with the next check-in set to 20 November, a job due 18 November is Before next guest, and one due 25 November is Soon.

What it is not

Turnchores keeps the intervals you set and shows who marked what. It does not check that an interval is right for an appliance or a rule, and a done mark is "marked done by Cleaner A", not proof that the work was done. It holds no guest names or bookings: only the next check-in date you type. Turnchores is not affiliated with any booking platform, property manager or cleaning company.
